Reduce Cravings and Gain Control Over Addiction

No matter where you’re at on the spectrum of alcohol use, today’s show with special guest, Katie Lain, co-founder of Thrive Alcohol Recovery, will give you hope and a solid solution to finding freedom from alcohol.

Whether you’re on the extreme end of the spectrum of drinking too much too often, on the opposite end of the spectrum of barely drinking at all, or maybe somewhere in the middle of just needing to cut back a little, you will learn an amazing method that will help you reduce or eliminate alcohol in your life.

Today’s topic of alcohol addiction is near and dear to my heart, because I lost my brother 4 years ago due to addiction.

What started out as drinking a few beers with his buddies as a teenager soon turned into alcohol abuse, drug abuse, prescription drug abuse, and self-abuse. He tried to get sober a few times throughout his life, but it just never really stuck. All in all, he suffered his entire life. He suffered emotionally, physically, mentally, and spiritually. On July 6, 2018, with my hand on his chest, I felt my brother’s last heartbeat.

As his sister and his friend, I too suffered from his addiction. I suffered from having to watch him slowly kill himself with drugs and alcohol. I tried desperately to save him, and it took decades for me to finally realize that I could NOT save him. He could only save himself.

I may not have been able to save my brother’s life, but I am hoping that today’s episode can save your life or someone else’s life.

If you know of someone that needs to hear today’s episode, please, please, please share this episode with them. I pray that sharing a solution for such a widespread problem will make a difference in the world. We can ALL be the change we wish to see in the world.

From myself and my brother, we thank you. 🙏

The Nuggets of Midlife Wisdom from today’s show:

  1. The medication blocks receptors in your brain that would otherwise get a huge endorphin rush when you drink.
  2. The reason alcohol is addictive is because it gives our brains pleasure, and our brains are wired to seek out pleasure.
  3. With repeated use of alcohol overtime, anyone is susceptible to becoming addicted to it.
  4. The medication interrupts the reward center in the brain, and it makes alcohol a little less exciting.
  5. When you drink too much, there is a negative ripple effect that happens to you mentally, physically, and emotionally. The opposite is true when you reduce your drinking, and you begin to have a positive ripple effect in your life.
