RESTORE PELVIC FLOOR HEALTH

arrow left

If you’ve ever leaked when you sneeze, felt disconnected from your body, struggled with painful intimacy, or wondered “Is this just what midlife feels like now?” — you are not broken. You’re uninformed.

And that’s exactly what this episode of The Midlife Makeover Show is here to change.

In this powerful (and refreshingly honest) conversation, Wendy Valentine sits down with pelvic floor and perimenopause educator Jana Danielson, creator of the Cooch Ball®, to talk about what really happens to the pelvic floor in midlife — and why most women are doing the wrong things to “fix” it.

This is Cooch Care 101, and yes… every woman needs it.

  • Why most pelvic floor issues are caused by too much tension, not weakness
  • How perimenopause and menopause impact pelvic floor health, confidence, and connection
  • Why Kegels often backfire (and what actually works instead)
  • The surprising connection between breathing, stress, posture, and pelvic floor dysfunction
  • How a few minutes a day can help restore balance, circulation, and confidence

Let’s clear something up right away.

Leaking when you laugh.

Painful intimacy.

Constipation.

Tight hips.

Low back pain.

Feeling disconnected from your body.

These are not inevitable signs of aging.

According to Jana, up to 90% of pelvic floor dysfunction is a fitness issue — not a medical one. That means surgery, endless pads, and “just deal with it” advice are often completely unnecessary.

The real issue?

👉 Most women have a pelvic floor that’s too tight, not too weak.

Most of us were taught that “core strength” means abs.

Wrong.

Your true core is a 360-degree system that includes:

  • The pelvic floor (the floor)
  • The diaphragm (the roof)
  • Deep abdominal muscles (the walls)
  • Spinal stabilizers (the support)

When one part is offline — especially your breath — everything else suffers.

And guess what shuts the pelvic floor down fastest?

👉 Chronic stress.

When you’re stressed, anxious, overworked, or holding tension (hello, midlife 🙋‍♀️), your breathing shifts upward into your neck and chest.

That tells your nervous system: “We’re in danger.”

Your body responds by:

  • Releasing stress hormones like cortisol
  • Tightening muscles (especially the pelvic floor)
  • Disrupting circulation and sensation

Over time, that tension leads to leaks, urgency, pain, and loss of confidence — especially during perimenopause and menopause, when estrogen levels drop and tissues become more sensitive.

Here’s the truth bomb most women never hear:

Kegels are not the answer for most pelvic floor issues.

If your pelvic floor is already tight (which is common), squeezing it more is like clenching a muscle that never gets to relax.

Jana uses a powerful metaphor:

“A healthy pelvic floor is like an elevator. It needs to move up AND come all the way back down.”

Kegels keep the elevator stuck halfway — never fully resting.

And a muscle that can’t rest can’t function properly.

The Cooch Ball® is a science-inspired, external pelvic floor fitness tool designed to:

  • Release tension
  • Improve circulation
  • Wake up underused muscles
  • Support relaxation and strength

It meets your body where it is — whether your pelvic floor is too tight or lacking tone.

No awkward exercises.

No internal devices.

No endless routines.

Just minutes a day, often while watching Netflix or sitting in a chair.

One of the most powerful messages in this episode?

Menopause isn’t the end of vitality — it’s the beginning of a new chapter.

As hormones shift, your body needs different support, not more force.

That includes:

  • Gentle pelvic floor release
  • Improved blood flow
  • Nervous system regulation
  • Breath-based movement

When those basics are restored, women often report:

🌺 Fewer leaks

🌼 Less discomfort

🌹 Better posture

🌻 Improved digestion

🌷Increased confidence and connection

This conversation goes far beyond muscles.

Your pelvic floor is deeply connected to:

  • Emotional stress
  • Stored tension and trauma
  • Creativity and feminine energy
  • Confidence and self-trust

When it’s locked down, so is your energy.

When it’s supported?

✨ Everything flows again.

You don’t need to “push through” midlife changes.

You don’t need to normalize discomfort.

And you definitely don’t need to accept leaking, pain, or disconnection as your new normal.

You need education, awareness, and simple tools that work with your body — not against it.

That’s what Cooch Care 101 is all about.
