Melan for you is that bittersweet blend of melancholy and euphoria

All right, back to Halloween. So tonight I’ll be heading to a fabulous rooftop Halloween party here on the island of Madera, Portugal. This party actually sparked my idea for today’s, episode. A couple of weeks ago, I spotted the event poster, and right at the top was a word I’d never seen before. Melan for you. M M E L A N P H O R I A melon for you. It actually kind of sounds like a disease. I was like, oh, my God, do I have melan for you? Very intrigued. I looked it up and come to find out, yes, I do actually have melan for you. And most likely you do too. So what is melan for you? Melan for you is that bittersweet blend of melancholy and euphoria. It’s the feeling you get when one chapter is ending and another one is about to begin. You feel a little sad about what you’re leaving behind, but there’s also excitement and joy for what lies ahead. And isn’t that just the essence of midlife? Hello. See, I told you. I’ve got melon for you. You do too. We’re saying goodbye to the first half of life and stepping into a whole New phase that’s filled with both nostalgia and new possibilities. Oh, my God, it’s so great.

Midlife melanphoria is the bittersweet transition between younger and older years

All right, let’s talk about midlife melan foria and how it shows up in our lives. Think about the younger years, right? When we were searching for a mate, raising the kiddos, building a career, running a household. It was all consuming. Now there’s a sadness that those days are behind us. As crazy as some of those days were, right? Maybe the kids are grown or the career we poured ourselves into has shifted, or maybe we’re even thinking about retirement. It’s bittersweet, right? The melancholy of letting go of who we once were mixed with the euphoria of stepping into who we’re becoming. But here’s the beauty of midlife. It’s also. Oh, my gosh, this is my favorite. It’s a time for rediscovery. Now we get to focus on us. We can explore new passions, start traveling, if that’s what you want to do, or take up hobbies we never had time for. There’s excitement in knowing that this chapter is about us, discovering what truly lights us up and living with purpose. Here are just a few more examples of midlife melanphoria that I just brainstormed about. I was just, like, obsessed with this melanphoria thing, starting with relationships, the kids. Leaving the nest can be heartbreaking. I know it was for me. But with the sadness of letting go also comes the joy of having time to rediscover yourself, reconnect with your partner, or focus on friendships that nourish you. Second is career shifts. Maybe you’re ready to step away from a traditional career to pursue something you’re passionate about. There’s uncertainty in leaving behind a steady job, but there’s also exhilaration in the chance to create something new and meaningful. Health. Our bodies are definitely changing at, midlife. We may not have the energy or physical resilience we had in our 20s, and that can be hard to accept. But we’re also in a place where we can embrace ourselves as we are without constantly striving for someone else’s ideal. There’s a unique freedom in loving the skin you’re in and identity and aging. It’s normal to feel a little melancholic when we think about the first half of our life being over those years of building, growing, and establishing ourselves, they’re done. But now we’re on the brink of something even more meaningful. We can explore the world, connect with our inner selves, and live in a way that truly feels authentic. So how do we navigate this melan for you and make the most of this midlife season? Here are some powerful strategies to help you embrace this chapter with grace and courage. Number one. Acknowledge the season. Recognize where you are. Ask yourself, is this a season of letting go, growth, or rest? Naming the season brings clarity and peace. You’re going through a transformation, and awareness is the first step in finding meaning in it. Number two. Be gentle with yourself. Every season serves a purpose. Give yourself permission to feel what you need to feel, Whether it’s sadness, joy, or a mix of both. Don’t rush through your emotions or feel the need to have everything figured out. You’re allowed to take things at your own pace. Number three. Practice letting go of control. Not every moment of life can be controlled or planned, and that’s okay. Some seasons require surrendering and trusting that everything is unfolding as it should. Release the need for perfection and allow life to guide you. Number four, Celebrate small wins. Look for the little moments that bring you joy, even on tough days. Maybe it’s finding a few minutes to enjoy a quiet cup of coffee. That’s my fave. Reconnecting with an old friend or taking a small step toward a new goal. These wins add up and remind you of your strength. Number five, Embrace change. Just as nature shifts with the seasons, so do we embrace the endings, beginnings, and even everything in between. Change is an opportunity for growth, and with each transition, you become stronger and wiser. Number six, the for now mindset. I love this. When you’re feeling stuck or uncertain, try adding for now to the end of your thoughts. Instead of saying, I feel lost, say I feel lost for now. Instead of saying I feel tired, you can just say, I feel tired for now. This little phrase is a powerful reminder that all seasons, good and bad, are, temporary. You’ll get through it, just as you always have. Remember, midlife is filled with melan foria, a mix of melancholy and euphoria. Embrace it. Let yourself feel all of it. Because when you do, you’re stepping into the fullness of this beautiful midlife journey, with all its highs and lows, and discovering who you truly are.
